Meanwhile, in the Fraser Valley, the BC Wildfire Service has designated the Bear Creek fire as a “wildfire of note.” This designation signifies a fire that is generating significant attention and concern. Campers in the Harrison lake area are being advised to leave as road closures are implemented in anticipation of increased activity ahead of the long weekend. The Bear Creek fire, currently covering 65 hectares, is the first fire to receive this designation in B.C. since the Izman Creek blaze near Lytton was downgraded on July 9.
Across the province, approximately 70 active wildfires are being managed, with 20 of these fires having started within the past 24 hours. The designation of a “wildfire of note” is reserved for fires that pose a heightened level of risk or public interest.
