Luke Littler Crashes Out of World Youth Championship Semi-Finals

October 5, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Luke Littler suffered a 6-5 defeat against Cam Crabtree in the semi-finals of the World Youth Championship at Minehead. The 19-year-old fought back from a 2-0 deficit to level the match before Crabtree overhauled him to secure the win and advance to face Jan Schmidt in the final.

Littler Reaches Quarter-Finals Before Falling to Crabtree

Littler arrived at the tournament following a shock opening-stage defeat to Luke Woodhouse at the World Grand Prix. At the World Youth Championship, open to players aged 16 to 24 with £60,000 in total prize money, the world number one won three matches to advance from the group stage. He subsequently defeated Lewis Cook—surviving a 3-0 deficit against the 16-year-old—before overcoming David Fidler 6-1 and Archie Self 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals. A 6-2 victory over Harrison Leigh propelled Littler into the final four, where he ultimately fell to the 23-year-old Crabtree.

Mardle Questions Scheduling Logic Amid Littler Form Dip

The recent exit compounds a dip in form that began when Littler’s bid for a clean sweep of all major PDC titles in 2026 ended in Amsterdam, where he voiced frustration over being repeatedly whistled at by Dutch supporters. Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle questioned the scheduling logic behind Littler entering the youth tournament. I don’t know what he wants to gain from it, Mardle stated on Sky Sports. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I just don’t see the value time-wise. Because time-management’s everything when you’re playing a lot. Mardle added that Littler’s recent losses stem from subpar performances rather than the difficulty of the circuit alone, noting, He’s not been playing that well… He’s just having a couple of off days right now.

Players Championship Context

Littler’s concurrent efforts in the Players Championship series saw the teenager start late after skipping the first 26 low-key floor events of 2026 to manage his schedule. Having entered Tuesday with just £4,000 earned from floor events, Littler reached the quarter-finals of the 28th event before advancing one step further to the semi-finals of the next event. Brendan Dolan defeated Littler 7-4 in that semi-final, adding £6,500 to his total and leaving him 125th in the standings with significant ground to cover to break into the top 64 required for the Minehead finals. Meanwhile, Luke Humphries secured his qualification by defeating Dolan 7-5 to claim the £15,000 event win.

Upcoming Professional Schedule

The European Tour season moves next to the Swiss Darts Trophy from October 9-11 and the Dutch Darts Championship from October 16-18. Those events precede the European Championship in Dortmund, Germany, running from October 22-25. Sky Sports holds broadcast rights for the remaining major slate, including the Grand Slam of Darts from November 14-22 and the World Darts Championship from December 10 to January 3.
