Luke Daley, a 37-year-old Tucson resident with a prior felony arrest record, has publicly stated he has no involvement in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie of NBC’s Today show. Daley and his 77-year-old mother were briefly detained on February 13 after a SWAT team executed a search warrant at their home, approximately two miles from Guthrie’s residence.
Speaking with “True Crime Arizona” host Briana Whitney, Daley described the experience as “tough,” recounting being handcuffed and placed in a police car while authorities searched his vehicle and home. He stated he believed his name would be easily cleared. “All the dates I was telling them where I was,” Daley said. “All you have to do is glance at my phone and see my location. It was nowhere near anywhere or have any connection to this.”
Authorities have not publicly disclosed the reason for focusing on Daley and his mother, leaving him to speculate about the basis for the search warrants. “They didn’t inform me any information about that,” Daley told Whitney. “I have thought of any type of reason why they could have arrive after me, but there’s nothing, and I think that’s why they didn’t tell me.”
Online speculation arose suggesting Daley resembled a masked individual captured on a doorbell camera approaching Guthrie’s home on the night of her disappearance, February 1. Daley firmly denied the resemblance, stating, “It’s absolutely not” him, and cautioned against the “hive mind” of online amateur detectives.
Daley acknowledged that his daily life in Tucson has been significantly impacted since the detention. “I can’t go anywhere,” he explained. “Everyone gives me dirty looks. I’d like to be able to go about my life and not have this shadow of doubt casted over me.” His Range Rover was seized by police during the investigation, though its current status remains unclear.
Daley’s criminal history includes prior arrests for drug and weapons charges, most recently last year, according to reports. He was released after several hours of questioning, as was his mother. Nancy Guthrie remains missing as of March 2, 2026.
