Hollywood Celebrates AAPI Talent: Lucy Liu, Chloe Zhao to Receive Honors
Los Angeles, CA – The Critics Choice Association (CCA) will honor a diverse group of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) actors and filmmakers at its annual Festivity of AAPI Cinema & Television. The event will recognize groundbreaking contributions to film and television, spotlighting the increasing visibility and impact of AAPI voices in entertainment.
This yearS celebration comes as AAPI depiction in Hollywood continues to gain momentum, though disparities remain.The event aims to amplify these successes and advocate for continued progress toward inclusivity. honorees represent a range of projects and platforms, from streaming giants like Netflix and Apple TV+ to critically acclaimed independent films, underscoring the breadth of AAPI talent.
Among those being recognized is actress Lucy Liu, who will receive the Actress Award for Series for her role in the critically acclaimed series Shōgun (FX). Director Chloe Zhao will be presented with the Visionary Award for her work, which includes the Oscar-winning film Nomadland and her upcoming projects.
Ali Ahn will accept the Supporting Actress Award for Series for her performance in the Emmy and Critics Choice Award-nominated series The diplomat (Netflix). Shih-Ching Tsou will receive the Breakthrough Director Award for Left-Handed Girl, which was nominated for the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at the Cannes film Festival and is Taiwan’s submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.
Chase Sui Wonders will accept the Breakthrough Actress Award for her role in the Apple TV+ Emmy Award-winning series The Studio, which holds the record for the moast wins for a comedy series in a single year with 13 emmy awards. Actress Lukita Maxwell will receive the Rising Star Award for her work in the Apple TV+ Emmy and Critics Choice Award-nominated series Shrinking.
