Zidane‘s Son Approved to Play for Algeria, Boosting World Cup Hopes
Luca Zidane, son of French football legend Zinédine Zidane, has been cleared by FIFA to represent the Algerian national team. the 27-year-old goalkeeper, who has previously played for France’s U20 squad, is eligible through his father’s heritage.
this decision significantly strengthens Algeria’s prospects as they pursue qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Currently leading Group G,algeria could secure their place in the tournament with a victory against Somalia in early October. Luca Zidane currently plays for FC Granada, a team at the bottom of the Spanish second division.
Zidane is the second of Zinédine Zidane’s four sons, all of whom have pursued professional football careers. The possibility remains that Luca could feature alongside Bundesliga stars Ramy Bensebaini of Borussia Dortmund and Farès Chaibi of Eintracht Frankfurt in future Algerian lineups.
