Daring Heist at the Louvre: Priceless Napoleonic Jewels Stolen in Broad Daylight
Paris, France – In a stunning display of audacity, a gang of highly organized criminals breached security at the Louvre Museum in Paris this weekend, making off wiht millions of pounds worth of jewelry belonging too Napoleon Bonaparte and his wife, Josephine. The brazen theft, which occurred around 9:30 AM sunday, prompted the immediate closure of the iconic museum.
According to police sources cited by Le Parisien, the thieves exploited ongoing construction work on the Seine River side of the building to gain access. Hooded individuals reportedly used small chainsaws to enter the Louvre and then utilized a freight elevator to reach the targeted display room. Once inside, they smashed windows and stole nine pieces from the Napoleonic jewelry collection, including a necklace and a brooch.
Remarkably,in their haste to escape, the thieves dropped the priceless Eugénie Crown,a notable piece of French imperial history.
French Culture Minister Rachida Dati confirmed she was on-site with museum staff and police, stating a full criminal enquiry has been launched. “Detectives are liaising with museum staff,” she said, adding that thankfully, no one was injured during the incident. A Louvre spokesperson confirmed the museum’s closure was due to “exceptional reasons.”
The stolen jewels represent a significant part of the opulent collection amassed by Napoleon and Josephine after their coronation in 1804. The collection includes pieces acquired during the french Revolution – many originally belonging to European royalty – and treasures gathered throughout the expanding French Empire.
