Louisville Swims Past Notre Dame in ACC Dual Meet Sweep

October 25, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor News

On October 22, 2026, in South Bend, Indiana, the Louisville swimming and diving teams swept dual meet competition against Notre Dame, with the women winning 213 to 83 and the men winning 188 to 111, as reported by SwimSwam.

Louisville Women Dominate Events in South Bend

The #10-ranked Louisville women won all but one event during the dual meet, securing victories across both swimming and diving disciplines. Several athletes competed in events outside their usual specialties. Anastasia Gorbenko, noted as the fastest breaststroker in the NCAA this season, skipped breaststroke events entirely to race the 200-yard freestyle and the 400-yard individual medley. She won both races, clocking a personal best 1:42.95 in the 200 free—marking the fourth-fastest time in the country this season—and a personal best 4:06.34 in the 400 IM, also the fourth-fastest national time in that event according to SwimSwam data.

With Gorbenko shifting events, sprint freestyler Caroline Larsen stepped into the breaststroke role and won the 100-yard breaststroke in a personal best 59.20. Larsen also captured the 100-yard butterfly in 51.92, finishing just shy of her lifetime best. Additional individual victories for the Louisville women included Angelina Solari taking the 50 free in 22.51, Mary Clarke winning the 100 free in 48.84, Julie Mishler claiming the 100 back in 52.12, and Xeniya Ignatova winning the 200 back in 1:53.95. Anna Inagaki secured the 200 breast in 2:11.21. In diving, Samantha Helmboldt won the 1-meter event with 295.50 points, and Maud Van Kempen took the 3-meter board with 295.28 points. Distance freestyler Thilda Haell earned a double win for the Cardinals by taking the 500 free in 4:43.36 and the 1000 free in 9:33.67. Lainey Mullins of Notre Dame broke the sweep by winning the 200 fly in 1:58.49.

Cardinals Men Secure Team Victory Despite Fighting Irish Wins

The #12-ranked Louisville men claimed the overall team score despite dropping two swimming events and both diving events to Notre Dame. Nikita Sheremet led the Cardinals by sweeping the sprint freestyle events, swimming the 50 free in 19.25 and the 100 free in a season-best 42.67 to edge out Notre Dame’s Shane Eckler by two tenths of a second. Sheremet later anchored the 400 medley relay and led off the victorious 400 free relay team alongside Rian Graham, Aiden Musso, and Aidan Kaplan, which finished in 2:52.23.

Oscar Isberg contributed two individual victories for Louisville by winning the 200 free in 1:35.45 and the 500 free in 4:23.22. Gregg Enoch added wins in the 200 fly with a time of 1:43.28 and the 400 IM in 3:49.57. Notre Dame responded with individual swimming victories from James Darcy, who won the 1000 free in 8:59.82, and Marcus Reyes-Gentry, who took the 100 back in a season-best 45.51. Notre Dame also swept the diving events behind Daniel Knapp, who scored 368.48 on the 1-meter board and 396.75 on the 3-meter board.

Touchpad Malfunctions Affect Women's 200 Medley Relay Splits

Relay events shaped the early momentum of the meet, though technical issues arose during the women’s 200 medley relay. Gorbenko and Larsen joined Julia Ogren and Julie Mishler to win the event in 1:35.39. However, individual leg splits for Gorbenko and Larsen were unavailable due to a touchpad malfunction on both 50-yard legs, as reported by SwimSwam. Larsen anchored the 400 freestyle relay with a leadoff split of 47.68, followed by Angelina Solari, Daria Golovaty, and Mary Clarke, combining for a winning time of 3:13.08.

For the men, the 200 medley relay squad of Filip Kosinski, Finnley Conklin, Aiden Musso, and Nikita Sheremet posted a winning time of 1:23.88, finishing roughly one second ahead of Notre Dame’s 1:24.99.
