Georgia Tech Hosts Annual Swimming and Diving Alumni Meet
The Georgia Tech swimming and diving teams host the annual Alumni Meet at the McAuley Aquatic Center, welcoming back generations of former letterwinners. Warm-ups for the event begin at 8:30 a.m., with competition opening at 9 a.m. according to ramblinwreck.com.
Relay and Sprint Races Open the Morning Competition
The morning competition opens with a 4×100 relay followed immediately by the mile relay event. The meet then transitions to sprint races, featuring three heats of the 100 and three heats of the 50. The Yellow Jackets conclude the morning schedule by racing in a 200 free relay. Spectators and returning alumni can utilize campus parking at the Campus Recreation Center Garage, designated as W10.
Early Season Momentum
The alumni gathering follows a strong opening stretch for the varsity squad. Georgia Tech reached the Dual Meet Tournament championship meet, securing victories over No. 23 Florida State and No. 20 South Carolina. The men’s team holds an undefeated 4-0 dual meet record, which includes ranked wins over No. 17 Auburn alongside Florida State, South Carolina, and Emory. Last weekend alone, the Jackets recorded 18 top-10 program times.
Freshman Turkish breaststrokers Meriç Uygun and Kerem İlyem paced the recent record-breaking performances. Uygun posted the second-fastest 200 breaststroke time in program history at 2:09.53, added the third-fastest 200 individual medley time at 1:59.12, and notched the fifth-fastest 100 breaststroke time at 1:01.37. İlyem contributed the third-fastest men’s 200 breaststroke time at 1:53.11 alongside the 10th-fastest 100 breaststroke mark. Vivien Rothwell swam the 100 backstroke in 52.63—just a tenth of a second shy of her own school record. Senior Ricky Balduccini established a personal best in the 100 backstroke at 46.46 and clocked a 42.54 in the 100 freestyle. Freshman James Sorensen recorded the fifth-fastest 100 backstroke time at 46.66, while fifth-year transfer Ella Flowers touched the wall at 1:59.82 in the 200 individual medley.
Facility Modernization Plans
The reunion coincides with an ongoing capital campaign. The Full Steam Ahead initiative is a $500 million fundraising project designed to support championships across the athletic department. The campaign targets renovations for Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field, the Zelnak Basketball Center, and O’Keefe Gymnasium, alongside broader operational support.
