LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Swimmers from the University of Louisville, Notre Dame, and Kentucky competed Saturday evening at the Ralph Wright Natatorium, seeking to secure qualifying times for next month’s NCAA Championships. The meet saw several top performances, including winning times from Karoline Barrett of Louisville in the women’s 50 freestyle and Charlie Crush, also of Louisville, in the men’s 50 freestyle.
Barrett touched the wall in 22.52 seconds in the women’s 50 free, while Crush posted a time of 18.99 seconds to win the men’s event. Ethan Chauliaguet of Louisville finished second in the men’s 50 free with a time of 19.74, followed by Justin Peresse of Kentucky (20.05) and Rob Ehrenborg of Louisville (20.12).
In the women’s 100 butterfly, Sophia Rodriguez of Louisville recorded a winning time of 53.56 seconds, with Kaitlyn Sallows finishing second in 55.49 seconds. Aiden Musso of Notre Dame claimed victory in the men’s 100 butterfly with a time of 45.02 seconds, edging out Aidan Paro (45.23) and Rian Graham (45.27).
Ryder Hicks of Louisville won the men’s 200 breaststroke in 1:56.10, while Sadie Murphy of Louisville finished first in the women’s 100 backstroke with a time of 55.61 seconds. Matias Santiso of Louisville secured the win in the men’s 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:34.64, with Thomas Powers-Hammond taking second in 1:35.10.
Diving events also took place, with Kristy Pfaff of Kentucky winning the women’s 3-meter with a score of 317.85. Ray Preas won the men’s 3-meter with a score of 386.78. Samm Helmboldt won the platform event with a score of 269.25, and Zalika Methula of Kentucky and Landon Isler of Kentucky won the 1-meter events with scores of 272.70 and 319.65 respectively.
Earlier in the day, Fernanda De Goeji of Kentucky posted a time of 4:22.55 in the 400 IM. Maya Bezanson of Notre Dame finished the 200 freestyle in 1:47.99. Rian Graham of Notre Dame won the men’s 100 butterfly in 45.27 seconds, while Carli Cronk of Notre Dame won the women’s 100 butterfly in 53.99 seconds. Drew Collins of Louisville won the men’s 100 backstroke in 47.95 seconds, and Karoline Barrett of Louisville posted a time of 22.76 in the women’s 50 free.
According to the University of Notre Dame’s official athletics website, the Fighting Irish are currently independent in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. The team plays its home games at Notre Dame Stadium, which has a capacity of 77,622. The website also lists Marcus Freeman as the current head coach.
