WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 7 Louisville Cardinals extended their winning streak to seven matches with a decisive 3-1 victory over Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon. Freshman opposite Kalyssa Blackshear spearheaded the attack, delivering a match-high 18 kills and six blocks as Louisville improved to 20-4 overall and 12-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
louisville’s consistent performance throughout the season has solidified their position as a top contender in the ACC, and this win against Wake forest (11-4, 5-9 ACC) marks their sixth consecutive road victory. The Cardinals demonstrated a balanced attack and strong defensive presence, overcoming an early challenge from the Demon Deacons.
The teams traded sets early, with Louisville taking the first 25-16 before Wake Forest responded with a 25-20 win in the second. Louisville regained control, winning the third set 25-18 and closing out the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth.
blackshear’s extraordinary .412 hitting percentage lead a Cardinal offence that finished with a .302 hitting percentage, complemented by 16 total blocks and six service aces. Junior outside hitter Chloe Chicoine contributed 15 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks, while junior libero Kamden Schrand anchored the defense with 13 digs and two aces. redshirt junior middle blocker Hannah Sherman added 10 blocks.
Louisville will return home to host a pair of crucial ACC matches,facing florida State on Thursday,november 13,and Miami on Sunday,November 16.
