The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) will close all locations on Monday, February 16, 2026, for Presidents Day, a federal holiday.

The closure impacts all branches across Los Angeles County, according to a statement released by the library system. This includes locations within the city of Los Angeles as well as those operated by the Los Angeles County Library, which will also be closed on the holiday.

Presidents Day, officially Washington’s Birthday, results in the closure of numerous government services. Los Angeles city and county offices, as well as state and federal offices, will be shuttered. Superior courts will also be closed, as will schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District and other districts throughout the county, according to published calendars.

Banks and the New York Stock Exchange will also observe the holiday and will not be open for business. The U.S. Postal Service will suspend regular mail delivery, and post offices will remain closed to the public.

Despite the widespread closures, some essential services will continue to operate on a regular schedule. Public transit, including buses, subway lines, and Metrolink trains, will maintain their normal service levels. Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment will also continue trash and recycling collection as scheduled.

The LAPL’s holiday closures for 2026 also include New Year’s Day (January 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 19), and Easter (April 5). Further closures are planned for Memorial Day (May 25), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 3), Labor Day (September 7), Indigenous Peoples’ Day (October 12), Veterans Day (November 11), Thanksgiving (November 26 & 27), and Christmas (December 25).

The Los Angeles County Library has not announced any changes to its regular schedule beyond the Presidents Day closure.
