Loose WomenS Brenda Edwards Reveals Respect and Trust Among Panellists Fuels Health Campaign
Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards is championing a new campaign encouraging members of Afro-Caribbean communities to prioritize their eye health, citing the inherent trust and respect already present within those communities as a key factor in delivering vital health messages. Edwards is supporting Specsavers‘ ”Aunties Army” initiative, focused on raising awareness of glaucoma – a condition disproportionately affecting people of African and Caribbean descent.
The campaign leverages the influential role of “aunties” – respected figures within these communities known for offering guidance and support – to encourage regular eye tests. Edwards explained that because these women are already sought out for advice, extending that trust to healthcare decisions feels natural. “They are given respect and are people you go to for advice, so why not trust them with your health? That’s what we are trying to get across in the campaign,” she said. Glaucoma often presents no early symptoms, making regular check-ups crucial for early detection and preventing potential vision loss.
