Uber Business Hub Opens in London, Ontario to Offer Drivers Face-to-Face Support
London, ON – As the gig economy continues to expand, a new business in downtown London, Ontario is aiming to bridge the gap between rideshare and delivery drivers and the often-impersonal support systems offered by major platforms like Uber. The Uber Business Hub, located at 344 Richmond St., provides free, in-person advice and training to local drivers.
The Hub is the brainchild of Momen Aghber, a former rideshare driver who now manages a fleet of 20 Uber vehicles. Aghber recognized a critical need for accessible support, noting that drivers often feel lost navigating the digital support channels.”Drivers see Uber as a faceless company, where if we need some kind of support then we need to call the support line. Sometimes its AI that replies to you and you don’t get real answers,” he explained.
The Hub offers assistance with everything from registration paperwork and app navigation to crucial customer service skills. This training goes beyond simply driving, focusing on building rapport, resolving issues, and navigating challenging passenger interactions.
“Uber gives good service [but] how will it be the best in the world if the driver doesn’t have any training?” asks Basen Al sabe,a London-based Uber driver.Al Sabe, who has been driving for five months, highlights the everyday challenges drivers face - passengers leaving messes, requesting unscheduled stops,or providing incorrect addresses. He recounts instances where he felt compelled to go above and beyond to avoid negative reviews. “We have two options. The first option is that I help the rider. The other option is the rider will complain about me to Uber,” he said.
A growing Driver Population
The need for such a resource is underscored by the sheer number of rideshare drivers operating in London. Recent data indicates there are over 7,500 registered Uber and Lyft drivers in the city – roughly one driver for every 60 residents.
Uber’s Response
While the Uber Business Hub aims to support drivers, Uber itself is not affiliated with the venture.A company spokesperson cautioned against sharing account facts with third-party services, citing potential risks of fraud and account compromise. Uber maintains it provides 24/7 in-app support and has partnered with UFCW Canada to offer drivers union representation for account-related issues at no cost.
However, Aghber argues that the existing support systems lack the personalized, proactive training needed to equip drivers for the realities of the job. The Uber Business Hub aims to fill that void, offering a human touch in a rapidly evolving industry.
