Logitech Announces Signature Slim solar plus keyboard, Promising Up to 10 Years of Battery Life
Logitech is preparing to release a new keyboard featuring solar charging technology, the Signature Slim Solar Plus, marking a return to solar-powered keyboards after 13 years since the K750 Solar model. The new keyboard appears to be a variation of the existing Signature Slim K950, raising the question of whether the addition of solar power is truly necessary.
Logitech’s “Lightcharge” technology aims to provide up to ten years of battery life with the Signature Slim Solar Plus. This contrasts with the current non-solar Signature Slim models, which last approximately three years on two AAA batteries. while the solar version represents a threefold increase in longevity, the article notes that replacing batteries every three years is a manageable task for many users, and the solar model will likely come at a higher price point and potentially with increased points of failure. The article suggests a solar panel would be particularly beneficial for a potential successor to the Logitech MX Keys S, a high-end office keyboard with a similar design and features to the Signature Slim, but which includes a white backlight and motion sensors. The MX Keys S currently requires connection to a computer or charger after about a week of use with dynamic backlighting enabled.
The Logitech Signature Slim Solar Plus will be a full-size, low-profile membrane keyboard capable of connecting to up to three devices simultaneously via Bluetooth. It will also include a dedicated key for an AI assistant. The keyboard is expected to be available soon, with a projected price of around 130 euros (3200 CZK). Information about the keyboard was reportedly published prematurely by some online retailers, prior to an official declaration from Logitech.
