Logan Marshall-Green rides with Luke Grimes in New ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff, ‘Y: Marshals‘
LOS ANGELES, CA – June 13, 2024 – CBS is bolstering the cast of its highly anticipated Yellowstone spinoff, Y: Marshals, with the addition of actor Logan Marshall-Green. The series, slated for an early 2026 premiere, will star Luke Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton.
Y: Marshals will follow Kayce Dutton’s journey as he transitions into an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. The show promises a gritty exploration of justice in Montana, blending Kayce’s expertise as both a cowboy and a former Navy SEAL. The official logline details the team’s struggle to balance the demands of family, their sworn duty, and the psychological toll of being the last line of defense against escalating violence in the region.
Marshall-Green, known for his roles in And Just Like That…, Carry-On, and Big Sky, will portray pete Calvin, a close friend of Kayce’s from their shared military past. The character is expected to provide a crucial link to Kayce’s backstory and offer a contrasting perspective on the challenges faced by law enforcement.
Expanding the ‘Yellowstone’ Universe
CBS greenlit the series in May 2024, marking a significant expansion of the Yellowstone franchise onto broadcast television. While the original Yellowstone series found a home on the Paramount Network, CBS’s acquisition signals a broader strategy to reach a wider audience. The network has previously aired reruns of the flagship series, demonstrating existing viewer interest.
Though Taylor Sheridan, the creative force behind Yellowstone, remains an executive producer, Spencer Hudnut (SEAL Team) will helm the series as showrunner and penned the premiere episode. Hudnut’s experience with military-focused dramas is expected to lend authenticity to the U.S. marshals storyline. The production team also includes John Linson, Art Linson, Grimes, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Yaitanes (directing the premiere), Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox.
Y: Marshals is a production of MTV Entertainment Studios – which is undergoing a rebranding to Paramount TV Studios following the recent Paramount Skydance merger finalized on June 12, 2024 – and 101 Studios. Filming is tentatively scheduled to begin in late 2024 in locations throughout Montana, including near Darby and Hamilton, with a projected budget of $15 million per episode.
Marshall-Green is represented by CAA, 3 arts Entertainment, and Goodman Genow. His previous credits also include Spider-Man: Homecoming and Quarry.
