Lizzie Savetsky confronts Spike Lee over mailbox incident
“I will not let this pass”: Spike Lee Confronts Lizzie Savetsky Over Mailbox Incident
First of all, ha-ha. And second of all, yes I damn well did it, Spike Lee,
Lizzie Savetsky wrote on her Instagram account after confronting film director Spike Lee outside his home.
The dispute stems from a clash surrounding the NBA All-Star Game in February. Savetsky targeted the filmmaker after he wore clothing bearing a keffiyeh and a Palestinian flag to the high-profile basketball game.
Savetsky confronts director outside his residence
The incident escalated when Savetsky confronted the director directly at his residence. She stood outside the property holding an Israeli flag, delivered an angry speech, and pushed the flag into his mailbox.
Lee condemned the act. That woman, Lizzie Savetsky, who does a lot of things on Instagram, stood in front of my house, held an Israeli flag, went into an angry speech and then shoved an Israeli flag into my mailbox,
the director stated. It’s really against the law when you mess with someone else’s mail.
Savetsky did not deny the action and defended her conduct online. She accused Lee of provoking Deni Avdija, the first Israeli-born player to participate in the NBA All-Star Game, by wearing Palestinian symbols at the game. If you think I’m going to let that slide in silence, you’ve come to the wrong place,
she posted on social media.
Lee defends his outfit choice at the event
The controversy began when Lee arrived at the February All-Star event wearing a keffiyeh-patterned shirt and items featuring the Palestinian flag. The timing drew criticism from Israeli fans and supporters, given Avdija’s status as the first Israeli participant in the showcase.
Lee rejected accusations that his wardrobe choice was intended to target Avdija. The director maintained he was unaware the Israeli player was participating in the game when he selected the outfit. He explained that the garments were meant to express concern for Palestinian children and citizens.
The filmmaker also asserted he harbored no hostility toward Jewish people and praised Avdija’s abilities. Savetsky previously characterized her flag gesture as a “little gift between neighbors,” but remained unmoved by Lee’s explanations.
