Vietnam and Lithuania Strengthen Ties Amidst Growing Trade
Bilateral Relations Reach New Heights in 2025
A longstanding partnership between Vietnam and Lithuania is experiencing renewed momentum, with economic collaboration and people-to-people connections deepening. Both nations view the relationship as strategically important, fostering cooperation on multiple fronts.
Trade and Investment Surge
Economic exchange between the two countries is on a strong upward trajectory. During the first three months of 2025, bilateral trade volume reached USD 94.7 million—a substantial 94.4% increase when compared to the same period last year. Lithuania currently has three foreign direct investment projects in Vietnam, totaling approximately USD 260,000, concentrated in the sectors of media, science & technology, and healthcare.
Despite this growth, officials acknowledge that current trade levels remain below their potential. According to the Lithuanian Department of Statistics, Lithuania’s overall foreign trade turnover in Q1 2025 amounted to EUR 14.8 billion, highlighting Vietnam’s relatively small but rapidly expanding share. Community and Cooperation
Approximately 200 Vietnamese citizens currently live and work in Lithuania, primarily operating businesses within Vilnius’s shopping centers. An additional 100 Vietnamese individuals are pursuing studies or employment opportunities throughout the country. The Vietnamese Association in Lithuania, founded in 2012 and officially recognized by Lithuanian authorities, plays a vital role in supporting the community and fostering cultural connections.
“The Vietnamese Association has become an integral part of Lithuanian society, contributing significantly to our economy and promoting understanding between our cultures.”
—Ramūnas Karbauskis, Vilnius City Council Member
Both Vietnam and Lithuania actively collaborate and provide mutual support within regional and international organizations, demonstrating a shared commitment to global cooperation. Tran Thuong has been instrumental in facilitating these discussions.

Looking ahead, both nations are poised to further strengthen their partnership, exploring new avenues for collaboration and solidifying their positions as key geopolitical and economic partners.
