Detroit Lions Face NFL Fines for Multiple Players Following Giants Game

ALLEN PARK, MI – The Detroit Lions are facing financial penalties from the NFL following their 34-27 overtime victory against the New York Giants last weekend. The league announced fines for three Lions players stemming from actions during the game, as part of its weekly disciplinary process.

The NFL states it issues fines “to protect players from needless risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity,” with rules violations persistent in agreement between the NFL and the NFL Players Association.

Safety Brian Branch received the largest fine, totaling $23,186 for unnecessary roughness – specifically, a hit on a defenseless player – occurring at the 1:49 mark of the first quarter. This is the second consecutive week branch has been fined for the same infraction, following a similar penalty against the Philadelphia Eagles. Through 11 games this season, Branch has recorded 69 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.

Linebacker Jack Campbell was fined $17,389 for an unnecessary roughness penalty related to a hip-drop tackle. Offensive tackle Dan Skipper will pay $6,917 for unsportsmanlike conduct, specifically taunting, in the third quarter.

The NFL confirmed that funds collected from these fines will be donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation, supporting former players in need, and the NFL Foundation, which promotes athlete health, safety, and wellness at all levels of football.

Each of the three players has the right to appeal the fines.
