Line of Duty is returning to BBC screens for a seventh series, the broadcaster confirmed today, bringing an end to speculation about the future of the hit police procedural.
The announcement marks a meaningful win for BBC drama and offers a boost to fans who have eagerly awaited the return of AC-12. The sixth series, wich concluded in 2021, captivated the nation with it’s complex plotlines and gripping performances, and the seventh series promises to continue the show’s tradition of intricate investigations and shocking revelations.
The new series will center on Detective Inspector Dominic Gough,a highly-regarded officer celebrated for his success in tackling organised crime,who is now facing accusations of abusing his position as a sexual predator. However, the storyline will also explore the possibility that this case is a intentional distraction from a larger, more insidious threat operating undetected.
Creator Jed Mercurio expressed his gratitude to the show’s dedicated fanbase, stating: “Everyone involved in Line of Duty feels enormous gratitude to the show’s fans. We’re privileged to have had so many of you follow the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn’t be more delighted to be returning for a seventh.” He added, with a touch of wry humour, “Corruption in this country is supposed to have come to an end while Line of Duty was off air so I’ve been forced to use my imagination.”
Launched in 2012,Line of Duty quickly became one of the UK’s most popular television dramas,consistently attracting millions of viewers and earning critical acclaim. The series has featured a stellar cast of guest stars over the years, including Stephen Graham, Thandiwe Newton, Kelly Macdonald, and Lennie James.
Stars Adrian Dunbar,Martin Compston,and Vicky McClure have all voiced their excitement about reuniting for the seventh series.
