Disney has officially confirmed that a new Lilo & Stitch film is in progress, following the notable commercial and critical success of the 2025 live-action adaptation.
The declaration was made via a playful video shared on Disney’s Instagram account, featuring the character Stitch, also known as Experiment 626, navigating the Disney studio lot in the distinctive pink children’s car from the original movie. The caption accompanying the video stated, “should’ve known he couldn’t keep a secret. a 626 day surprise: #LiloAndStitch 2 is now in development!”
Chris Sanders, the co-creator, co-writer, and co-director of the beloved 2002 animated film Lilo & Stitch, is reportedly in the final stages of negotiation to pen the script for the upcoming sequel.Sanders also lent his voice to the character of Stitch in the original film and reprised the role for the recent live-action version.
Details regarding the plot of Lilo & Stitch 2 are still emerging. The original film spawned several follow-ups, including the direct-to-video sequels Stitch! The Movie and Lilo & stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, as well as the television series Lilo & Stitch: The Series. According to reports, this new installment will feature an entirely original narrative.
