Alianza Lima secured a crucial victory over Universitario de Deportes 3-1 on Sunday, taking the lead in the second phase of the Peruvian Volleyball League (Liga Peruana de Vóley). The win puts Alianza Lima at 49 points, edging ahead of San Martín (USMP) which has 48 points after defeating Circolo 3-2.

The match between Alianza Lima and Universitario was closely contested. Alianza Lima took the first set 25-22, but Universitario responded strongly, winning the second set 25-17. Alianza Lima then regained control, winning the subsequent sets 25-19 and ultimately securing the win.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Atlético Atenea defeated Olva Latino in a decisive 3-0 victory. Isabel Fernández was the standout player in the match, leading Atlético Atenea to a comfortable win with sets of 25-22, 25-16, and 25-14. According to reporting from Diario Libero, this performance highlighted Fernández as the best player of the match.

Saturday’s matches saw Géminis defeat Deportivo Soan 3-0, and Regatas Lima overcome Rebaza Acosta with the same scoreline. San Martín also secured a 3-2 win against Circolo.

The league standings after the completion of the eighth round of the second phase are as follows: Alianza Lima (49 points), USMP (48 points), Universitario (44 points), Géminis (35 points), Atlético Atenea (32 points), Circolo Sportivo Italiano (25 points), Deportivo Soan (18 points), Rebaza Acosta (15 points), and Olva Latino (14 points).

The final round of matches will determine which teams advance to the quarterfinals. Both Alianza Lima and USMP will be looking for wins in their respective upcoming matches to secure the top spot.
