Liam Lawson Team Radio Reveals Singapore GP Panic Over George Russell
Liam Lawson Admits Panic Over George Russell Charge in Singapore Grand Prix Radio
Untelevised team radio footage from the Singapore Grand Prix revealed that Liam Lawson told his pit wall I’m pretty f**ked
and admitted he panicked a bit
as Mercedes driver George Russell closed in during the closing stages of the race, PlanetF1 reported. The New Zealander secured a second consecutive seventh-place finish at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, helping cement Racing Bulls’ hold on fifth place in the constructors’ standings.
The untelevised audio highlights a tense battle as Lawson managed a set of soft tires. On Lap 40, race engineer Alexandre Iliopoulos informed Lawson that Nico Hulkenberg and Russell were behind him. Lawson pushed back against the team’s strategy to manage the gap, radioing, Yeah, but Russell’s gonna be here soon.

As the race wound down, Iliopoulos walked the driver through strat settings and engine braking stability while managing a shrinking gap to the chasing pack. When Iliopoulos checked in on his physical state at the checkered flag, Lawson replied, Yeah, I’m pretty f**ked, yeah!
before acknowledging his race engineer’s observation that he had panicked regarding Russell’s late charge.
Points Haul Strengthens Racing Bulls Standing
The 10-point weekend in Singapore—comprising a fifth-place finish in the Saturday sprint and seventh in the grand prix—lifted Lawson to 75 points in the drivers’ championship, pushing him 34 points clear of Alpine driver Pierre Gasly in the battle for best of the rest, according to the NZ Herald. Racing Bulls reached 100 points for the 2026 season, surpassing their 92-point total from the previous year and building a 32-point advantage over Alpine in the constructors’ standings with a maximum of six races remaining.
While Lawson capitalized on a strategy to start on soft tires, teammate Arvid Lindblad struggled after getting squeezed at the first corner, dropping from a top-10 start to finish 15th. Racing Bulls Team Principal Alan Permane indicated a decision on the 2027 driver lineup would arrive in the coming weeks, leaving Lawson to evaluate his future against contenders like Formula 2’s Nikola Tsolov and Lindblad.
