Lewis Hamilton states he is built differently and aims to race into forties
In a news conference before the Mexico Grand Prix, seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton stated that the sport has never had anyone like him in its 70 years, reaffirming his determination to keep racing into his mid-forties.
Racing into the 2030s and the African Grand Prix Dream
Hamilton has made clear his desire to continue competing in Formula 1 to fulfill a long-held ambition of racing in Africa. Formula 1 signed a 10-year deal with Rwanda to host a Grand Prix in the early 2030s, marking the continent’s first race since 1993. Hamilton, who is currently 41, will be at least 45 by the time the event in Rwanda takes place. While he remains signed to race for Ferrari through 2027, he views his potential longevity in the sport as a special case.
You’ve never had anyone like me here in the last 10 years,
Hamilton told media including Motorsport.com in Mexico City, as noted by Crash.net. So I feel that I’m built differently.

Challenging Preconceptions on Age and Reaction Time
Addressing questions about the physical demands of aging in elite motorsport, Hamilton pushed back against the notion that reaction times inevitably decline. He pointed directly to his performance on the track to argue that age has not blunted his competitive edge. Did you see my reaction in the last race? My reaction’s faster than some of the youngest people here,
he stated.
The Briton currently sits third in the 2026 drivers’ championship, trailing George Russell by a single point, while Andrea Kimi Antonelli closes in on the championship crown. Hamilton acknowledged that while future challenges remain unpredictable, he continues to utilize various tools to keep his mind and body sharp. He emphasized that as long as he remains willing to make the necessary sacrifices, he is fully committed to the sport for the foreseeable future, though he admitted uncertainty about competing at age 44.

Hamilton Sets Personal Thresholds for Racing Career
Despite his ambitions to race well into the next decade, Hamilton maintained that he has strict personal thresholds for his career. He stated plainly that he does not want to overstay his welcome or continue driving if his pace, drive, and reactions drop off.
Everyone assumed that last year and I have proved everyone wrong,
Hamilton said regarding doubts about his performance, adding that he intends to keep proving detractors wrong while keeping an eye on the evolving grid.
