Lewis Hamilton: Ferrari Reset & Defiant ‘Not Going Anywhere’ Message | F1 2024

Lewis Hamilton reaffirmed his commitment to Ferrari and Formula 1, posting a defiant message on social media at the conclusion of pre-season testing in Bahrain. The seven-time world champion acknowledged a challenging 2024, his first season with the Italian team, and pledged a renewed focus for the upcoming 2026 campaign.

Hamilton’s 2024 season was marked by a significant dip in performance, failing to secure a podium finish in any of the 24 races. This downturn prompted criticism and speculation about his future, with some observers suggesting retirement. However, the 41-year-old has consistently dismissed such suggestions, and his latest social media post underscores his determination to continue racing.

“That’s a wrap on testing,” Hamilton wrote. “It’s inspiring to watch a team pull out all the stops to build a car. It’s the most fascinating part of this job for me. Everything is built from scratch and designed and redesigned over and over. And then there are only a few of us who get to put that machine to the test. That feeling never gets old.” He expressed gratitude to the Ferrari team and his supporters, stating, “I love this job so much and I love working with my team and driving for the fans. I’m incredibly lucky to be able to do what I do, and I’m excited for the season ahead.”

Addressing his struggles in 2024 directly, Hamilton added, “I’m re-set and refreshed. I’m not going anywhere, so stick with me. For a moment, I forgot who I was, but thanks to you and your support you’re not going to see that mindset again. I know what needs to be done. This is going to be one hell of a season. I’ve given everything to be here today. Let’s go team!!!”

The positive outlook from Hamilton coincides with encouraging signs from Ferrari during pre-season testing. George Russell of Mercedes set the fastest time on the first day of the final test session, but Lewis Hamilton’s running was limited by a technical issue. Ferrari had previously completed six days of track time without significant problems, and the SF-26 car appears to be a competitive platform for the latest 2026 regulations. Hamilton himself completed 150 laps during testing, focusing on race pace simulations, although a late engine issue required examination by the team.

Recent testing also revealed a potentially advantageous launch capability for the Ferrari, with Hamilton demonstrating a significantly quicker start than rivals George Russell and Oscar Piastri during practice starts. This has prompted scrutiny from the FIA, who are evaluating a revised start procedure due to concerns about the new regulations and potential safety issues. The removal of the MGU-H from the new power units is believed to be contributing to challenges in achieving optimal launch configurations.

The competitive landscape for the 2026 season remains unclear, but Ferrari’s strong performance during testing suggests they are well-positioned to challenge for the championship. Further evaluation will be necessary once the season begins, but the initial indications are positive for the Italian team and its star driver.
