Nasko Sirakov Initiates Sale Talks for levski Sofia
SOFIA, Bulgaria – Nasko Sirakov, majority owner of Bulgarian football club Levski Sofia, has begun negotiations regarding the sale of the club, according to sources close to the fan association “Levski.” The development comes amid increasing scrutiny from supporters over the club’s performance adn the stalled construction of a new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium.
The move follows sustained criticism of Sirakov’s management, especially regarding financial openness and strategic planning. Dimitar Kostadinov, chairman of the “Levski” fan association, recently stated that approximately BGN 600,000 of fan contributions earmarked for stadium pre-project activities have yielded no visible results. Further fueling discontent, the association has repeatedly highlighted the team’s failure to secure league titles or achieve meaningful progress in European competitions.
Recent questioning from the fan association focused on the short-term contract offered to head coach Julio Velazquez – a three-month agreement with a clause for three months’ salary payment should the club terminate the contract. Petar Dimitrov, a TV presenter for the fan association, characterized the contract as unusual even by Bulgarian standards, noting that domestic coaches are frequently enough less protected in their agreements.
Momchil Lazarov, a member of levski’s supervisory board, emphasized the importance of addressing fan concerns, stating, ”The question of the stadium is much more vital than any result. For us leftists, these questions are not chewing gum. Without them, a club cannot adequately exist nowadays.”
levski sofia is one of Bulgaria’s most historically significant football clubs, boasting a large and passionate fanbase. The club has won 26 Bulgarian league titles and 25 Bulgarian Cups. The stalled stadium project, intended to replace the aging Vasil Levski national Stadium, has been a long-standing issue for supporters.
