New York Attorney⁤ General Letitia James Indicted by Justice Department

WASHINGTON – Letitia James, the New York Attorney General who recently won a landmark civil fraud case against Donald Trump,‍ has been indicted ⁣by the Justice Department, sources⁢ confirmed friday. The investigation centers on a mortgage obtained in‍ 2023 for a property ⁢located⁢ in Norfork, Virginia.

The⁢ indictment marks a stunning ‍development for James, a⁢ prominent figure in ‍Democratic politics who has aggressively pursued ⁢legal action against Trump and other high-profile individuals. The case raises questions about potential discrepancies in her mortgage submission and could lead to further scrutiny of ⁣her ⁣financial dealings. The Justice Department has not yet released details of the charges.

The investigation reportedly focuses on whether ⁣James knowingly made false statements regarding the intended‌ use of the Virginia property. Her attorneys provided the Justice department with‌ documentation in April contesting what⁣ they described as “threadbare” allegations. They⁣ acknowledged one document in the mortgage application “mistakenly” stated the property woudl ‍be James’ primary residence, but⁢ argued other submitted documents demonstrated no fraudulent intent.

According to her legal⁢ team, James explicitly‌ stated⁢ in an⁤ email to her loan originator ⁣that the property “WILL NOT be my primary residence.” She also⁢ checked a box on a separate document affirming the property would not be her primary residence.

Prior to the indictment,Ed martin,a political commentator, publicly called for James’ resignation, posing ⁢for photos outside her Brooklyn home in⁣ August and sending a letter to her attorney.

the‌ Justice Department has not commented⁤ on⁤ the⁤ indictment. James’ office ‍has not yet ‍issued a ‌statement. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
