New York Attorney General Letitia James Indicted by Justice Department
WASHINGTON – Letitia James, the New York Attorney General who recently won a landmark civil fraud case against Donald Trump, has been indicted by the Justice Department, sources confirmed friday. The investigation centers on a mortgage obtained in 2023 for a property located in Norfork, Virginia.
The indictment marks a stunning development for James, a prominent figure in Democratic politics who has aggressively pursued legal action against Trump and other high-profile individuals. The case raises questions about potential discrepancies in her mortgage submission and could lead to further scrutiny of her financial dealings. The Justice Department has not yet released details of the charges.
The investigation reportedly focuses on whether James knowingly made false statements regarding the intended use of the Virginia property. Her attorneys provided the Justice department with documentation in April contesting what they described as “threadbare” allegations. They acknowledged one document in the mortgage application “mistakenly” stated the property woudl be James’ primary residence, but argued other submitted documents demonstrated no fraudulent intent.
According to her legal team, James explicitly stated in an email to her loan originator that the property “WILL NOT be my primary residence.” She also checked a box on a separate document affirming the property would not be her primary residence.
Prior to the indictment,Ed martin,a political commentator, publicly called for James’ resignation, posing for photos outside her Brooklyn home in August and sending a letter to her attorney.
the Justice Department has not commented on the indictment. James’ office has not yet issued a statement. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
