Albert Kassabi,known as “Bebert,” the frontman of the French rock group Les Forbans,has died after a long illness. he was 63. The news was announced Tuesday evening by Michel Papain, co-founder and drummer of the band, on behalf of the family.
Les Forbans formed in 1978 with a group of high school friends and achieved widespread recognition in 1982 with their hit song “Chante!”-a French adaptation of Ernie Maresca’s “Shout! Shout! (Knock Yourself Out).” The song sold nearly two million copies and became a staple of French popular music.
Throughout their career, Les Forbans released approximately ten albums and performed around fifty concerts annually. Thay were also part of the “Âge Tendre, la tour des idoles” tour until 2014, a popular concert series featuring artists from the 1960s thru the 1990s. the band commemorated their 40th anniversary with a performance at L’Olympia in 2018.
