Léa Seydoux rejects food items during Elle UK interview
French actor Léa Seydoux rejected a series of traditional British and French delicacies during an Elle UK promotional interview, declaring a pain au chocolat “really not good” and dismissing a Victoria sponge cake by stating she did not “see the purpose.” The video segment quickly accumulated over 6.6 million views on X.
Seydoux, known for her roles in No Time To Die, Blue Is The Warmest Colour, and Dune: Part Two, sat down with the publication to promote her latest film, Gentle Monster. The conversation opened with an exploration of national stereotypes. “The French are quite snobbish; they think that their taste is the best,” Seydoux said, adding that her compatriots are often secure, nonchalant, and possess a dry sense of humor.
Seydoux Rejects Food Items During Tasting Segment
The tone shifted when producers presented Seydoux with a selection of food items to taste on camera. Her assessment of the items drew widespread attention across social media platforms. First handed a pain au chocolat, Seydoux inspected the pastry before pushing it away. “It’s not fresh. There’s not enough chocolate in it. It’s too thick. Sorry, I will not try it,” she stated.
Subsequent offerings met similar resistance. Presented with a traditional English Eton mess—a mixture of berries, meringue, and whipped cream—Seydoux looked disturbed and pushed the plate aside without tasting it. Even a selection of French macarons failed to win her approval. “They’re not my favorites,” she remarked while handling one. “I don’t know why people love them.”
When handed a slice of traditional British Victoria sponge cake, Seydoux peered at it before offering a blunt assessment. “For me, I don’t see the purpose,” she said. The remark drew particular engagement from online viewers on X.

The only item Seydoux consented to try was a British scone served with clotted cream and jam. Breaking off a small piece with visible trepidation, she tasted it and offered a relative endorsement: “Not bad.”
Buzzfeed noted that the video generated significant online commentary, with users sharing particular amusement over her critique of the Victoria sponge cake.
