Lauryn Hill & Wu-Tang Clan Nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2026
Lauryn Hill and Wu-Tang Clan are among the nominees for the 2026 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the organization announced Wednesday. This marks the first nomination for both the pioneering hip-hop group and the acclaimed solo artist and former Fugees member.
The nominations recognize the lasting impact of both artists, with Hill being acknowledged for her 1998 debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and Wu-Tang Clan for their groundbreaking 1993 album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). They are the only hip-hop artists nominated this year.
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill delivered hits such as “Ex-Factor,” “Doo Wop (That Thing),” “Everything Is Everything,” and “To Zion,” and cemented Hill’s place in music history. At the 1999 Grammy Awards, she made history by winning five awards, including Album of the Year – the first time a hip-hop artist had received the honor.
Wu-Tang Clan, comprised of RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Masta Killa, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, revolutionized hip-hop with their debut. Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), guided by RZA’s production, blended raw lyricism with samples from kung-fu films, creating a distinctive sound and aesthetic. Tracks like “Protect Ya Neck,” “Bring da Ruckus,” “Wu-tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit,” “C.R.E.A.M,” and “Can’t It All Be So Simple” became anthems.
“This diverse list of talented nominees recognizes the ever-evolving faces and sounds of Rock & Roll and its continued impact on youth culture,” said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, in a press release. “Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is music’s highest honor and we glance forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 this Fall.”
More than 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals will participate in the voting process. Selection criteria include an artist’s influence on music culture, the breadth and duration of their career, and the overall body of operate.
The 2026 Performer Inductees will be revealed in April, with selections made under three categories: Musical Influence, Musical Excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non Performer Award. The induction ceremony is scheduled to capture place in the fall, with details regarding the date and ticket sales to be announced later.
Last year, OutKast was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Salt-N-Pepa received the Musical Influence Award.
Other nominees for the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame include Sade, Recent Edition, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, The Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley, Phil Collins, Melissa Etheridge, Billy Idol, INXS, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, P!NK, and Shakira.
