Launceston General Hospital experienced disruptions Tuesday afternoon following reports of a potential gas leak and staff requiring medical attention. Emergency services responded to the hospital at 2:40 p.m., initiating a safety response that included evacuating affected areas.
The incident prompted a swift response from Tasmania Police, Fire and Emergency Services, who confirmed crews were dispatched to investigate the reported leak. While the hospital proactively ventilated the premises before their arrival, fire crews remained on scene to determine the source and ensure the safety of patients and staff. Hospital spokespeople confirmed staff received medical treatment as needed and emphasized patient and staff safety as the top priority.
A hospital spokesperson stated, “The affected areas have been vacated as we work to establish the cause of the issue.” They further added, “Staff have been supported and provided wiht medical treatment where appropriate.”
