Latvian Concert Series “Other Citizens” Blends Unconventional Sounds, Wins Top Honors
Riga, Latvia – A groundbreaking concert series in Latvia, “Other Citizens,” is captivating audiences with its innovative fusion of world and Latvian popular music. The project, lauded for its artistic daring, recently received the prestigious Corige Award for “Concert of the Year in Riga,” solidifying its place as a pivotal moment in the nation’s cultural landscape.
The “Other Citizens” project isn’t simply a concert; it’s a deliberate exploration of musical boundaries. The creative force behind it comprises a stellar lineup of Latvian composers: Valts Pūce, Andris Sējāns, and Uģis Prauliņš. Thay collaborate with musician Gustavo, the acclaimed youth choir “voices,” led by conductor Ints Teterovsky, and incorporates the expressive art of Latvian sign language interpreters Ieva Solovjova and Elza Veismane. Teterovsky notes, “The fusion of different genres of music, which definitely creates something new, where the human voice is the main instrument – emotionally, saturated, multicolored.
