Latvian Bobsleigh Team Announces Coaching Change, Eyes Fresh Start for Olympic Season
The Latvian Bobsleigh Federation (LBSF) is embarking on a new chapter as Sandis Prussis steps down as head coach. This decision, characterized by a willingness to give others a chance,
paves the way for a revamped coaching structure aimed at revitalizing the team’s performance in the upcoming Olympic season.
Prussis’ Departure: A Mutual Decision
At the end of April, the LBSF released a statement detailing prussis’ intentions. According to the statement, when evaluating the results of the past season, coach Prussis expressed his willingness to give team management reins to young professionals, who are able to mobilize and promote the performance of Latvian teams in the Olympic season with fresh view and change in training methodology.
The federation has already initiated the process of identifying and recruiting new coaching talent.
New Coaching Staff on the Horizon
The LBSF is nearing the completion of its search for Prussis’ replacement. Janika Judeika, the LBSF Secretary General, stated that we have found specialists who will work with the Latvian team. At the moment, everything is not yet officially organized, so I will not speak in detail and will not name specific words, but we promise to announce it next week.
The new coaching corps will feature a blend of both local and foreign expertise, Judeika confirmed.
Prepared for Transition
The federation was prepared for Prussis’ departure, indicating that it wasn’t entirely unexpected. Judeika explained that such a turn was ready for the LBSF and that prussian retreat was not surprising.

The previous season presented challenges for the Latvian bobsleigh team. Last season may not have been the most accomplished, especially when compared to past achievements,
Judeika acknowledged. She added, Of course, at the beginning of the season we were aware that there was a big challenge, the team had a big change, we had to start with a new pilot, and we realized that the most successful season. In the bobsleigh, the result was better for the PC.
Looking Ahead: Embracing Change
The LBSF recognizes the current period as a transition phase, with a new generation of athletes emerging. Judeika emphasized that the federation is well understood that the sample is currently changing generations and that this is a normal process. The results go up and ever fall, but we are alive and continue to work. The team is in full.
