LaTroy Lewis Firing: Sherrone Moore Accusations Surface in New Details

February 28, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The Atlanta Falcons dismissed assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis on Friday, hours after allegations of sexual assault surfaced stemming from his time as an assistant coach at the University of Michigan, according to multiple reports.

The allegations, initially reported by Justin Spiro, center around an alleged assault that occurred on December 5, 2024, whereas Lewis was an assistant coach at Michigan. The woman alleges Lewis sent her graphic messages “commanding her to perform various sexual acts on him,” and also sent texts reading, “I’m going to f–k you up,” and “I’d f–king kill you! Don’t play with me,” according to Spiro’s report.

Ann Arbor police are investigating the allegations, according to a statement obtained by USA Today. “The Ann Arbor Police Department was just recently made aware of allegations regarding a sexual assault reported to have occurred on December 5, 2024,” said police spokesperson Chris Page. “The AAPD Detective Bureau launched an immediate investigation into the incident. This investigation remains active and ongoing.”

The allegations also involve the conduct of former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore. According to reports, the woman informed Moore about the alleged assault by Lewis. However, rather than reporting the incident, Moore allegedly “weaponized” the information against the woman, sending her lewd and sexually charged text messages, ESPN reported.

Ellen Michaels, Moore’s attorney, denied the allegations in a statement to ESPN. “Sherrone Moore did not fail to report misconduct, did not reward wrongdoing and did not harass anyone,” she said. “These claims are false.”

Lewis’ attorney, Fabiola A. Galguera, also issued a statement, asserting her client’s innocence. “Allegations of sexual misconduct are not proof of sexual misconduct. It is essential to pass judgment based on facts and the facts are currently not being presented to the public,” Galguera said. “Mr. Lewis intends to fiercely fight these false allegations with the support of his wife, family, and my team.”

The Falcons stated they were aware of the allegations prior to the dismissal. According to the New York Post, the team said they were “in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.” Lewis was hired by the Falcons on February 10, 2026, as part of new head coach Kevin Stefanski’s staff.

The situation adds another layer of scrutiny to the University of Michigan’s football program. Moore was previously dismissed from his position as head coach following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and additional allegations of pursuing other women in a sexual manner. The University launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Moore’s firing and a broader culture review of the Athletic Department, according to a statement from University of Michigan’s assistant vice president of public affairs, Paul Corliss. “These allegations are deeply concerning,” Corliss said. “We continue to urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the law firm conducting the investigation at [email protected].”
