Police Release Body Camera Footage of Fatal 12-Car Crash in Las Vegas
Las Vegas metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has released body-worn camera footage documenting the chaotic aftermath of a 12-car collision that occurred on November 18, 2023, at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard. The crash resulted in three deaths and sparked a murder inquiry, alleging the incident was intentional.
The released footage offers a raw, firsthand view of the scene as officers responded to the devastating crash. It provides critical context as authorities continue to build their case against 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez, who is accused of intentionally causing the collision. The incident has deeply impacted the families of the victims and raised concerns about reckless driving and its consequences in the Las Vegas area.
The crash initially claimed the lives of 38-year-old Edward Garcia and 20-year-old Adilene duran Ricon, Gutierrez’s girlfriend, who family members say was pregnant. A third victim, 25-year-old Vanessa Lainez Vasquez, succumbed to her injuries on December 4, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Prosecutors have charged Gutierrez with murder, alleging he deliberately crashed his Infiniti sedan into stopped traffic while traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. An arrest report indicated Gutierrez did not apply the brakes and exhibited signs of impairment, including red, watery eyes, and possession of a THC vape pen.
Gutierrez was initially arrested on reckless driving charges but was later re-booked on charges including two counts of open murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of battery with a deadly weapon.
