Kylie Cantrall Announces New EP Valley Girl Problems
Kylie Cantrall, the Venezuelan-American Disney star known for her role as Red in the Descendants franchise, releases her new EP “Valley Girl Problems” on July 24, signaling a pivot from acting to pop music. The eight-track project, produced by Tricky Stewart and co-written by Tayla Parx, explores themes of personal growth and identity, with the lead single “Carrie Bradshaw” dropping in April. The release follows her signing with Republic Records and her return to Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, set for July 16.
EP Marks Shift from Acting to Music Career
The EP, released under Republic Records, features tracks like "Grwm" and "Girls Like U," which blend contemporary pop with introspective lyrics. "Valley Girl Problems captures everything I’ve experienced over the last year and how I’ve embraced this new chapter of my life," Cantrall said, according to her statement. The project follows her debut EP, B.O.Y., which included the single "Boy for a Day."

Production and Collaborations
The EP was produced by Tricky Stewart, a veteran producer known for his work with Rihanna and Tyla, and co-written by Tayla Parx, a songwriter for Ariana Grande and Panic! at the Disco. Parx’s contribution to "Carrie Bradshaw," inspired by the Sex and the City character, highlights the project’s pop culture references.
Track List and Thematic Depth
The EP’s track list includes "Closet," "Yuck!," and interludes "The Problem" and "The Answer," which frame the project as a narrative of self-discovery. The release coincides with the debut of Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, a Disney Channel sequel that repositions her as the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, played by Rita Ora.
