Ky-Mani Marley, son of reggae icon Bob Marley, will perform three tribute concerts in Sweden this summer, according to the Swedish news agency TT.
The concerts, billed as “A Bob Marley celebration,” will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ album Rastaman Vibration, released in April 1976. Ky-Mani Marley, who began his musical career in 1996, has released five albums, with his music often described as a blend of modern reggae and dancehall.
The performances are scheduled to grab place in Malmö, Gothenburg, and Stockholm throughout June and July. Rastaman Vibration was Bob Marley’s first album to reach the Top Ten in the United States, peaking at number eight on the Billboard 200 chart on May 15, 1976, and remaining on the chart for 22 weeks. The album’s single, “Roots, Rock, Reggae,” reached number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Rastaman Vibration featured contributions from a number of musicians, including Aston Barrett on bass, Carlton Barrett on drums, Tyrone Downie on keyboard, and Al Anderson and Donald Kinsey on guitar. The I-Threes provided backing vocals. The album was recorded at Harry J Studio and Joe Gibbs Studio in Kingston.
In the United Kingdom, Rastaman Vibration reached number 15 on the Official Charts Company listings, remaining in the charts for 13 weeks. The album achieved gold certification in Australia.
