Kris Statlander on Toni Storm’s Unpredictable AEW Style

March 23, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Kris Statlander, the current AEW Women’s World Champion, has publicly acknowledged the unpredictable nature of her rival, Toni Storm, describing the Australian wrestler as “as unhinged as possible” and praising her for it.

Statlander’s comments, made during an interview with Ring The Belle, stemmed from a segment leading up to their WrestleDream 2025 match. The champion indicated she approached the interaction with a degree of acceptance, noting Storm’s tendency to interpret interactions with women as playful banter. “To be fair, when it comes to her, I sense like her natural instinct is to process everything as gay banter when it’s any interaction with any woman really,” Statlander said. “So I was just there to make a match and do what I can. If I was giving her vibes, sorry my bad. You just have to soak in the moments for what they are.”

Statlander further elaborated on the difficulty of anticipating Storm’s actions, suggesting that Storm herself may not always be aware of what she will say or do. “I don’t even know if she knows what’s gonna approach out of her mouth half the time,” Statlander stated. “So it’s hard to deliver a heads up when you don’t even know your brain is thinking. She’s as unhinged as possible and we all love her for it.”

The rivalry between Statlander and Storm was a prominent storyline within AEW’s women’s division throughout 2025. Statlander ultimately retained her AEW Women’s World Championship against Storm at WrestleDream, following a prior championship win over Storm earlier in the year, as reported by Bleacher Report.

Storm’s wrestling future is currently uncertain. She has been absent from AEW television since sustaining an injury around the time of AEW Revolution 2026, with reports indicating a potentially extended recovery period that could last throughout the remainder of the year. The length of her absence remains unconfirmed by AEW.

Despite Storm’s injury and uncertain return, Statlander’s assessment highlights the significant impact Storm has had on the AEW women’s division, with her distinctive and unpredictable persona continuing to generate discussion among fans.
