BRNO, CZECH REPUBLIC – A FIBA European Cup womenS basketball game‌ between ⁢KP Brno and sassari was abruptly halted with 3.5 minutes remaining, leaving the Brno ⁤players stranded in a⁣ darkened and unheated arena, according to team ⁤manager Jaroslav Michálek. ‌At the time of the stoppage, Brno held a narrow 69-67 lead.

The unusual circumstances stem ⁣from a technical ‌issue causing a power⁢ outage in the hall. Michálek reported to Brno daily that after the ⁢incident, “They left us here in the dark on⁢ the board, everyone else is already‍ gone. The home team, the referee, everyone.we are the only ones in the hall, it’s dark and cold.” The situation has escalated into a dispute over‌ the game’s completion, with meaningful implications for KP Brno’s advancement in the tournament.

Sassari representatives reportedly suggested finishing the game in an ⁢alternate venue, ‍a proposal Brno declined,⁣ along‌ with a suggestion ⁢to resume play on Friday. Michálek stated that guidance from the Czech ‍basketball federation was to insist on terminating ⁤the match, while Sassari is pushing for its continuation, creating a current impasse.

The game’s outcome is crucial as the top two teams from each group, plus the four best third-place finishers,‌ qualify for the⁣ next stage of the European Cup.Elsewhere, in a separate European Cup contest, Chomutovsko faced challenges in⁢ Lithuania while missing key player Kateřina Bartoňová, recovering from hand surgery. Kateřina⁢ Rokošová lead ‌Chomutovsko with 15 points and 6 rebounds, supported by monika Fučíková and Eliška⁣ brejchová, each contributing 13 points.
