Kowloon Bay MTR Wedding Notices: Controversy and Online Reactions

Marriage Notices Spark Debate in ⁢Hong Kong

Hong‍ Kong residents‍ have expressed strong reactions to the appearance of marriage notices displayed on overpass railings on the 17th. The notices, originating⁣ from⁣ mainland Chinese marriage websites, are⁣ attracting attention and criticism.

each notice is affixed with a ‍rubber surface and tied with ⁢rope, featuring holes for‍ hanging. The notices are color-coded: pink indicates a female ⁣seeking marriage, while pink and blue signify a male seeking a partner. Notices advertising “matchmakers” or “Hong Ye”⁤ (a traditional term for marriage intermediaries) ⁤are marked with red lettering on a white ⁣background.

The notices detail personal facts of the individuals ⁢seeking marriage, including gender, date of birth,⁤ age ‌(and zodiac sign), height,⁢ occupation, monthly ⁢income, weight, education, marital status, ‍home and car ownership, and region. A member number from the originating ⁣marriage website and a photo of the candidate are also included, though the photo‌ is‍ obscured by the Chinese character “囍”⁢ (double happiness), symbolizing marriage.

Alongside personal details, each notice lists “spouse selection Requirements,” ⁢specifying desired age, height, occupation, ‌monthly ⁣income, education, marital status, region, and whether or not the potential⁤ partner ⁢has children.⁤ QR codes are also present at the bottom‌ of‌ each notice.

The situation has ‌drawn⁢ criticism online, with netizens ⁤describing it⁣ as ⁤”crazy” ‌and ⁣”disgusting.” Some expressed concern about the impact‌ on the city’s appearance, calling for the ropes to be cut. Others recommended contacting the government hotline, 1823, to⁤ file inquiries or complaints.

Despite the negative reactions, some netizens expressed‌ curiosity ⁤and planned to view the notices. Others noted that the ⁣individuals seeking marriage spanned a‌ wide‌ age range, including those born in 1994, 1973, and even ⁤1968, ‌with some commenting on‌ the continued desire for marriage among ⁢these individuals.

This practice follows similar instances, such as a case⁣ reported⁢ by‌ stheadline.com involving a father allegedly seeking a bride for his 37-year-old⁢ son, who⁣ earns a substantial monthly income and does not smoke or drink. Another stheadline.com report‌ detailed a mainland woman seeking a Hong Kong husband with specific financial requirements – owning a home, car,⁤ and having a ⁤certain income. The report included images of a woman holding⁢ a sign listing her requirements and a man reacting to her display.
