Borussia Dortmund manager niko Kovač expressed optimism regarding the potential return of forward Fabio Silva, as the 23-year-old Portuguese international nears full recovery from a recent injury. Silva, who has yet to feature for BVB since joining the club, was on the cusp of a national team call-up for September before being sidelined.
Kovač lauded SilvaS attributes, highlighting his skillset as a customary number nine: “Fabio is a Portuguese national player, who would have been involved in September had he been healthy. A player who is at home in the nine position, who has his abilities with his back to goal. He is vrey secure on the ball, technically very adept. He is one who gives us a certain dynamism, who runs a lot and also attacks the depth. That is also something we want. I would really like the boy to finally show his ability here.”
Alongside Silva, defender Niklas Süle is progressing in his recovery from a muscle bundle tear and has rejoined training, albeit with limitations. While Süle remains unavailable for the upcoming match against Mainz, Kovač indicated a possible return for Wednesday’s Champions league fixture against Bilbao.
However, young Argentinian defender Aaron Anselmino will continue to be absent from the squad, as he is still not at 100% fitness following a recent injury. Kovač stated, ”Aaron was partially integrated, but still doesn’t feel 100 percent fit. It won’t be enough for the weekend.”
