AI and Healthcare data Take Center Stage at Korea Health Facts Service Symposium
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – The future of public health in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) was the central focus of a two-day symposium hosted by the Korea Health and Information Service (KHIS) on September 18th and 19th at the Ferum Tower ferum Hall in Seoul. The annual event brought together experts to discuss the innovation, challenges, and ethical considerations surrounding the convergence of AI and healthcare data.
KHIS Director Yeom Min-seop emphasized the critical importance of this integration, stating, “the combination of AI and health care data is no longer a choice but a key key to enabling people’s health promotion and medical service innovation.”
The symposium featured a diverse agenda, covering topics such as KR CDI-oriented healthcare data, cloud native hospital information systems, digital health policy, and the standardization of health and medical data. Representatives from organizations including Kakao healthcare, the National Bioethics Policy Center, the National Institute of Health, and Naver Healthcare participated in discussions.
Day one sessions included presentations and debates on healthcare information policies and technical areas. Day two focused on the current status of health and medical data, exploring secondary use, service development, and AI applications, including AI-driven infectious disease strengthening and the potential of a PHR data-based digital healthcare ecosystem.
Attendees included prominent figures such as hong Chang-kwon, Director of National Bioethics policy; Park Hyun-young, of the National Institute of Health; Kim Yun-dil, a member of the Democratic Party; Lee Sung-kyu, Director of Korea Hospital Honorary professor; Park In-seok, Chairman of the National Clinical Trial Support Foundation; and Lim Geun-chan, Professor at Hoseo University. A commemorative photo was taken with KHIS Director Yeom Min-seop and other attendees on the first day of the symposium.
The symposium underscored the growing recognition of AI and big data as essential tools for advancing public health and transforming medical services in Korea.
