Konami Planning Second and Third Waves of New Silent Hill Games
Konami is actively planning second and third waves of new Silent Hill games following the successful rollout of its initial revival titles, series producer Motoi Okamoto revealed in an interview featured in Famitsu Issue 1965 (via Game Observer).
Konami Clears the First Wave of Silent Hill Releases
The publisher’s long drought of new horror titles ended with an opening batch of games released over the last few years. Okamoto noted in Famitsu that all three initially announced titles launched successfully and received high praise from players and critics.
All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we’re relieved (laughs),
Okamoto said, as reported by Game Observer. He added that the team is already looking toward the future, stating: Successfully launching this ‘first wave’ comes with great relief, but we’re not stopping here; we must think of the second and third waves. We can’t share specific details, but we’re currently looking at a number of projects.

Overcoming Skepticism After Cancelled Projects
Reviving the dormant intellectual property required convincing corporate management to back multiple projects rather than a single standalone release. Okamoto pointed to the high-profile 2015 cancellation of Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus’ Silent Hills as a major hurdle that left fans and internal stakeholders skeptical about the franchise’s longevity.
If there were only one release, wouldn’t people think that the development is going to be cancelled again, I thought,
Okamoto explained to Famitsu. He maintained that just one remake is not enough
and that as a producer, he could not let the series end with a single project. Management ultimately approved the broader strategy, which also included the free-to-play title Silent Hill: The Short Message.
Next Steps for the Franchise
Following the release of Silent Hill: Townfall—which earned an 8/10 review from ign.com—Konami aims to maintain an annual release cadence for the franchise. Bloober Team is currently developing a remake of the original 1999 PlayStation game, which is expected to launch next year following their previous work on the Silent Hill 2 remake.
Konami has not yet disclosed specific details, titles, or release dates for the projects comprising the planned second and third waves.
