Braunschweig Falls to Hertha Despite Strong Performance, Captain Laments results-Oriented Game
Braunschweig, Germany – November 21, 2025 – Eintracht Braunschweig suffered a defeat against Hertha BSC today, returning home without points despite a performance captain Sven Köhler described as “very decent.” The Lions dominated much of the play, creating several scoring opportunities, but ultimately failed to capitalize, a recurring theme in recent weeks.
Köhler expressed frustration wiht the team’s inability to convert chances, stating, “If you were to look at the game without the one goal, then you wouldn’t assume that Eintracht Braunschweig would end the game as losers. it’s unfortunate at the moment, especially in front of the opponent’s goal, that we can’t get the ball into the net.” He acknowledged the team’s positive play, adding, “We play good football, actively attack the ball…but football is a results sport and ultimately, that’s all anyone cares about.”
Head coach Heiner Backhaus echoed Köhler’s sentiments, lamenting missed opportunities. “We should be leading and concede a goal with the opponent’s first chance. That’s how it is week after week,” he said. Backhaus specifically highlighted missed chances from Patrick Nkoa, Sidi Sané, and Chris Conteh, emphasizing the need for his players to shoot more decisively. He noted the team’s strong first-half performance, comparing it favorably to their cup game against Stuttgart.
Hertha BSC coach Stefan Leitl acknowledged Braunschweig’s strong play, stating, “What the Braunschweigers have put on the floor in the last few weeks has been pretty good. They were very disciplined in the first half.” Leitl also admitted his team made mistakes in possession and benefited from some luck, but praised his side’s improved counter-pressing in the second half and their ability to defend their lead. He concluded, “At the moment we deserve these games thru commitment and team spirit.”
Despite the loss, both Köhler and Backhaus emphasized the team’s commitment and positive performance, though the focus remains on turning chances into goals and securing results.
