Kevin Spacey’s Comeback: New Film & Fraud Allegations
Berlin – Kevin Spacey, the two-time Oscar winner once lauded for his performances, presented his latest film, “Holiguards Saga: The Portal of Force,” during the Berlinale, a move that has reignited scrutiny surrounding his career revival and the financial backing of his projects. The premiere, held in the Astor Film Lounge, occurred outside the official festival program, utilizing a rented cinema during the event’s timeframe.
Spacey stars in and directed the science fiction film, the first installment of a planned trilogy. The plot centers on a divided future and a conflict between warring factions of mythical creatures vying for control of humanity. Alongside Spacey, the film features Dolph Lundgren, known for his roles in action films like “Master of the Universe” and “Universal Soldier.”
The production of “Holiguards Saga” is financed, in part, by Elvira Paterson’s Elledgy Media Group. Paterson, a Ukrainian-born entrepreneur now based in Portugal, previously known as Gavrilova, has also produced events promoting the ventures of Vladimir Okhotnikov, a Russian cryptocurrency entrepreneur currently facing fraud charges in the United States. The U.S. Justice Department alleges Okhotnikov and three others operated a $340 million Ponzi scheme, with Okhotnikov facing a potential 20-year prison sentence. He also received a 10-year sentence in Georgia in 2024 for similar offenses, but has since relocated to Dubai.
Spacey reportedly traveled to Dubai to facilitate Okhotnikov’s participation in the film, with Okhotnikov credited as a screenwriter and appearing in a role. Paterson is now also under investigation by Portuguese authorities for suspected money laundering, triggered by unusual activity on her accounts, including a $312,000 cash deposit. A planned world premiere in Lisbon on December 20th was cancelled following the investigation.
At a “Cinema for Peace” gala in Berlin on Monday, Spacey was seen alongside Hillary Clinton and Kevin Spacey, according to reports. He spoke enthusiastically about the film and introduced Paterson, but did not address the financial complexities surrounding the production. The gala took place at the Adlon Hotel.
Spacey’s return to the spotlight comes after legal battles stemming from sexual assault allegations brought against him in 2017. He was acquitted in both a New York criminal trial and a civil case in London, though the accusations significantly disrupted his career. A new trial is scheduled in London in October 2026.
