Kentucky Flags to Fly at Half-Staff Following Kirk Shooting,9/11 Remembrance
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Kentucky Governor Andy beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff through sunset on Sunday,September 14th,in a dual act of mourning. The order comes in response to a proclamation from the white House honoring Charles James “Charlie” Kirk, tragically killed in a shooting at a speaking engagement in Utah on Wednesday, and in continued remembrance of the lives lost during the September 11th attacks.
This action underscores a period of national and state reflection. Governor Beshear’s directive acknowledges both the recent loss of a public figure and the enduring grief associated with the 2001 terrorist attacks. The lowering of the flag serves as a visible symbol of respect and solidarity with those affected by these tragedies.
In addition to honoring Kirk, flags were also lowered on Thursday, september 11th, to specifically commemorate Patriot Day. This annual observance provides a moment for Americans to remember the nearly 3,000 victims who perished in the attacks on the World Trade Centre, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Governor Beshear encourages all individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout the commonwealth of Kentucky to join in this solemn tribute by lowering their flags to half-staff as well.
