FRANKFORT, Ky. -‍ Kentucky Governor Andy ‌beshear has ⁢directed that‌ flags at all state office buildings be⁤ lowered‍ to half-staff ⁢through sunset on‍ Sunday,September 14th,in a dual act of mourning. The order comes in response to a proclamation from‌ the white House honoring Charles James “Charlie” Kirk, tragically killed in a shooting at a ⁤speaking engagement in Utah on Wednesday, and in continued ‌remembrance of the lives lost during the September 11th attacks.

This action underscores a period of national and state reflection. Governor Beshear’s directive acknowledges both⁢ the recent loss of a public figure and the enduring grief ⁣associated with the 2001 terrorist attacks. The⁤ lowering of the flag ⁢serves as a visible symbol of respect and solidarity ⁣with those affected by these tragedies.

In addition ⁣to honoring Kirk, flags ⁤were also lowered on Thursday, september 11th, to specifically commemorate Patriot Day. This annual observance provides a moment for Americans ‌to remember the nearly⁣ 3,000 victims who perished in the attacks on the World Trade Centre, the Pentagon, ‌and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Governor Beshear encourages all individuals, businesses, and organizations ⁣throughout the commonwealth of Kentucky to join in this solemn tribute by lowering⁤ their flags to half-staff as well.
