Kentucky Football Secures 38-24 Victory Over Eastern Michigan

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A dominant ground attack propelled the University of Kentucky football team to a 38-24 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Kroger Field. The Wildcats amassed 276 rushing yards, controlling the clock and establishing a decisive advantage over the visiting Eagles.

This victory marks a crucial early-season win for Kentucky (2-1), demonstrating their commitment to a balanced offensive strategy as they prepare for a challenging Southeastern Conference schedule. The game showcased the effectiveness of the Wildcats’ running game and provided valuable momentum heading into their next contest. Kentucky will next face South Carolina on September 27, with the game time and television broadcast details yet to be announced.

Running back Ray Davis led the Wildcats’ rushing effort with 116 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Quarterback Devin Leary completed 14 of 23 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown, efficiently managing the offense and complementing the strong ground game.

Eastern Michigan (1-2) kept the game competitive,with quarterback Austin Smith throwing for 248 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Eagles were unable to consistently contain Kentucky’s rushing attack or overcome the Wildcats’ defensive pressure.

Kentucky took an early lead, scoring on their opening drive with a 3-yard touchdown run by Davis. Eastern Michigan responded with a touchdown of their own, but Kentucky answered with another rushing touchdown, this time from JuTahn McClain, extending their lead to 14-7.

The Wildcats continued to build their advantage in the second quarter, adding a field goal and a passing touchdown to Leary to take a 24-10 lead into halftime.Eastern michigan attempted to rally in the second half, scoring two touchdowns, but Kentucky responded with two more rushing touchdowns from Davis, sealing the victory.

Defensively, Kentucky was led by linebacker D’Eryk Jackson, who recorded eight tackles. The Wildcats’ defense limited Eastern Michigan to just 68 rushing yards,further contributing to their overall success.
