Kenneth Walker on Pace to Break NFL Single-Season Rushing Record
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker has accumulated 665 rushing yards and 760 yards from scrimmage in his first five games of the season, putting him on a trajectory to break major NFL single-season records.
Projected Pace Toward Historic Marks
If Walker maintains his current rushing output over a 17-game schedule, he would finish the year with 2,261 rushing yards. That total would surpass the existing NFL single-season record of 2,105 rushing yards set by Eric Dickerson during a 16-game season in 1984. At his current per-game average, Walker is on pace to break Dickerson’s benchmark during his 16th game of the season.
On the receiving and rushing front combined, Walker’s current pace puts him on track for 2,584 yards from scrimmage over 17 games. That figure would eclipse the current NFL record of 2,509 yards from scrimmage established by Chris Johnson during a 16-game season in 2009. Walker would reach that record threshold in the 17th game of the current schedule.
Shifting Offenses in Kansas City and Seattle
The Chiefs signed Walker away from the Seattle Seahawks in free agency, adding the reigning Super Bowl MVP to an offense led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Walker has quickly established himself as the most impactful running back of the Mahomes era in Kansas City, fundamentally altering the team’s offensive approach.
Meanwhile, his former team has experienced a different start to the campaign. The Seahawks hold a 3-3 record while encountering difficulties with their rushing attack, highlighting the production lost with Walker's departure. The two sides are scheduled to meet on Sunday night when the Chiefs play the Seahawks in Seattle.
