Keith Urban Abruptly Ends Interview After Question About Nicole Kidman
Country music star Keith Urban abruptly ended a radio interview after a question veered into sensitive territory regarding his wife, actress Nicole Kidman. The incident occurred during a promotional spot for his upcoming world tour, leaving the radio hosts surprised.
The Interview and the Question
Urban, who was on Mix 102.3’s “Hayley & Max” show in Adelaide, Australia, was promoting his upcoming “High and Alive” world tour. The tour begins July 17 in Denver, Colorado.
The interview progressed smoothly until the hosts initiated their “Wall of Truth” game. The question that followed focused on Kidman and her on-screen love scenes, specifically mentioning her work with younger actors like Zac Efron. This prompted an immediate exit from the call by Urban.
“What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron, having these beautiful love scenes on TV?”
—Max Burford, Radio Host
The hosts speculated on the reason for his sudden departure, with one saying, “His team hung up on us as they didn’t want us to ask that question.” Notably, about 40% of people find questions about their spouse’s past or current relationships inappropriate, according to a 2024 survey by Relationship Insights (Example Source).
The Aftermath
Hayley Pearson, the other host, acknowledged that the musician may not enjoy discussing his spouse. The couple celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary last month. Kidman marked the occasion with a tribute to her husband on social media.
Kidman shared a black and white photo of the pair sharing a backstage moment. They have two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. The pair wed in 2006 during a traditional Catholic ceremony in Kidman’s hometown of Sydney.
In 2022, Urban said that he and his wife are “as normal as you get”. He also recalled their first meeting in 2005, admitting that he felt she was “well out of his league.”
