Kearney Public Schools Working to Recover from Cybersecurity Attack
KEARNEY, Neb.- Kearney Public Schools (KPS) is currently addressing a significant cybersecurity incident that compromised it’s technology network this past Friday. The district is working diligently with both its internal technology team and external cybersecurity experts to pinpoint the source of the attack and restore full system functionality.
As of Sunday,KPS officials confirmed that the recovery process is ongoing and will unfortunately extend beyond the start of school on Monday. This means that critical network-dependent systems, including school phones and computers, will be unavailable to students and staff.
despite the technical challenges, KPS has assured the community that classes will proceed as scheduled. However, parents and guardians should be aware that phone and email interaction with the schools will be temporarily disrupted. Anyone needing to contact a school directly is asked to do so in person.
Instruction will continue, but the use of digital learning tools will be limited until the network is fully operational. The district acknowledges the inconvenience this may cause and has expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and understanding.
“We understand this may cause inconvenience and appreciate your patience and support as we work through this situation,” a KPS spokesperson stated. “Please know that the safety and security of our students, staff, and data remain our highest priorities.”
