Kaliningrad Philharmonic Concerts: What to Hear from October 15 to 18
The Kaliningrad Philharmonic has scheduled four distinct concerts from October 15 through October 18, featuring vocal miniatures set to English poetry, cinematic organ soundtracks, and a musical children’s fairy tale, klops.ru reported.
Shakespearean Sonnets and Soviet Film Composition
The concert series opens on October 15 at 19:00 with Shakespeare’s Sonnets in Tariverdiev’s Music,
marking the first event in the Poetry and Music
subscription series. In the 1980s, composer Mikael Tariverdiev turned to the 16th-century English poet’s sonnets to build a vocal cycle addressing love, beauty, the relentless march of time, and death. Klops.ru reported that a seven-piece instrumental ensemble will accompany the vocal miniatures, creating a transparent soundscape that shifts between supporting and conversing with the voice.
Alexander Dudnditsky, a laureate of the Kaliningrad Region Priznanie
award, will combine singing and artistic recitation for the performance. He will take the stage alongside organist Maria Gavrilyuk and an instrumental ensemble featuring violins, cello, flute, double bass, vibraphone, percussion, and piano.
Cinematic Organ Soundtracks Across Eras
Organist Maria Gavrilyuk returns to the instrument on October 17 at 18:00 for the Soundtracks on the Organ
program. The setlist merges classical pieces with film scores from various eras and nations, ranging from Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris to Harry Potter, the dorama Tokkaebi, and Avatar.
The performance utilizes the venue’s wind organ to recreate symphonic textures, drawing on an instrument capable of simulating strings, brass, and percussion through keyboard manipulation and stop registers. The scheduled program includes Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, chorales from Solaris and The Mirror, and a Fantasy and Fugue in G minor from Maleficent alongside pieces by Ludwig van Beethoven, Dmitri Shostakovich, Ennio Morricone, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Hyoung-soo Noh, and James Horner.
Children’s Musical and Organ Masterworks Closing the Week
Younger audiences will hear a musical adaptation based on Korney Chukovsky’s poems and fairy tales on October 18 at 12:00. Composer Georgy Firtich provided the score for the Aybolit theatrical production. Philharmonic soloists including Maxim Kuznetsov, Dinara Sarsekeeva, Ksenia Azarnina, Yulia Vasilykova, Alexander Ivannikov, Konstantin Kirillov, Ruslan Omirow, and Svetlana Polevaya will portray animal characters, Barmaley, and Doctor Aybolit.
Closing the four-day lineup on October 18 at 18:00, philharmonic organist Anna Yusupova will perform Masterpieces of Organ Music.
Her program encompasses works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Max Reger, and Louis Vierne, highlighting stylistic shifts across baroque polyphony, German romanticism, and French organ virtuosity.
Tickets for all four events are available without commission fees via the Klops Afisha ticketing service.
